Joseph A. Hardy III (born January 6, 1923) is the creator and CEO of the 84 Lumber Company. After Hardy graduated in the University of Pittsburgh using a diploma in industrial engineering, he took the suggestion of a close buddy and started the Green Hills Lumber Company. Hardy enjoyed the name of the small town and chose to name his new firm 84 Lumber. Due to his successful direction of the business, 84 Lumber has become the 3rd biggest home improvement chain in America. This is accomplished mainly by keeping overhead low and embracing a ‘no frills’ warehouse-design strategy to most of its own shops (many of which are unheated, even in cold-climate places), because so many of its clients were commercial customers not too concerned with aesthetics or so on. Nevertheless, as new house building waned in modern times, some shops have taken on more of a look and feel to attract retail customers. The resort features three resorts, including Falling Rock hotel and clubhouse, Woodlands Spa, an Off Road Driving Academy, a shooting school, and multiple onsite eateries. Hardy fete the 84 Lumber Classics extravagantly, supplying the bunches with concerts that contained Rocket Star, Smash Mouth, as well as the Black Eyed Peas. Along with his participation in 84 Lumber and Nemacolin Woodlands Resort, Hardy started a 4 year period in 2004 as Vice Chairman of the Board of Commissioners of Fayette County where he resides. Hardy is directing a multi-million dollar renovation of Uniontown, the biggest city in the county, giving countless dollars to support road and building improvements and construction of green spaces. Hardy has received various awards in the area community for his non-profit contributions. Hardy ended first in vote becoming in the 2007 primary for Fayette County commissioner.
