Adam McKay (created April 17, 1968) is an American screenwriter, director, comedian, and actor. Ferrell and McKay also founded their humor site “Funny or Die” through their production business Gary Sanchez Productions. McKay initially auditioned for Saturday Night Live to be an onscreen performer, but failed to make the cut. He also directed several short films for the show, for instance, first SNL Digital Shorts. McKay motivated his Second City pal Tina Fey to submit a few of her scripts to Saturday Night Live, and she afterwards succeeded him as head writer on the show. Though McKay was never an actual SNL cast member, he did make several on camera appearances over time and had a recurring part as an obnoxious crowd member named “Keith” who’d regularly yell abuses in the star hosts in their opening monologue. Soon after leaving SNL, McKay teamed up with comedian Will Ferrell to compose the comedy films Anchorman, Talladega Nights, Step Brothers as well as The Other Men. In 2007, Ferrell and McKay found the user-submitted humor video website Funny or Die. A video on the website, titled The Landlord features both him and his young daughter, Pearl, whom Ferrell and his wife laugh at to mention curse words. Pearl additionally starred in another video titled “Good Cop, Baby Cop”. Ferrell and McKay co-produce the HBO show Eastbound & Down. McKay directed and co-composed with Ferrell the George W. Bush Broadway show, You Are Welcome America. He’ll direct the film adaptation of the Michael Lewis nonfiction novel The Big Short.
