Entertaiment means to divert, amuse or delight. Often it involves the enjoyment of something novel, like a new movie or solving a crossword puzzle. Sometimes entertainment is a serious pursuit, as in the case of ceremonies, celebrations and religious festivals. It can be as simple as a solitary person choosing an entertainment from the vast array of pre-recorded products available, to a banquet adapted for two; to a party or event with music and dancing suited to the size and style of the occasion; to a performance intended for thousands, such as an opera, concert or musical. The story of Scheherazade, a woman who saved her own life by telling stories, has inspired orchestral works by Rimsky-Korsakov and Ravel, a film by Pasolini, and even innovative video games.
