Sam Farha Biography

Ihsan “Sam” Farha (produced in Beirut, Lebanon in 1959) is a professional poker player. He’s famous for finishing as runner up in the World Series of Poker (WSOP) main event in 2003 and has won three bracelets in the WSOP. On the 2nd day of play Farha lost an important pot to Barry Greenstein leaving him with just 10% of the common stack. He was contemplating leaving only at that point and was talked into staying by Greenstein. He lost the closing hand to Moneymaker after going all in having a pair of jacks on the flop, and then be called by Moneymaker who’d flopped bottom two pair. In a rematch between Farha and Moneymaker a month or two after, arranged by PokerStars, Farha won. They played against each other again in a unique “grudge match” during 2011 World Series of Poker, that has been won by Moneymaker in best-of-three format. Farha also concluded in the money in the 2005 WSOP main event, along with the 2010 WSOP main event. Farha, after winning the $5,000 Omaha Hi Lo (8 or better) event in 2006, jumped playing the event the next three years. Then he played it again in 2010, after it had been raised to a $10,000 buy in event.
