Ron Ben-Israel is an Israeli pastry chef. He could be the executive chef and owner of Ron Ben-Israel Cakes in NYC. He’s famous for his wedding and special event cakes and for his detail in sugar paste flowers. Since 2011, he’s also hosted the cooking contest TV show “Sweet Genius”.
Ben Israel was born in Israel in 1957. His mom was created in Vienna and was saved in the ghetto by American volunteers, after immigrating to Israel. His dad was employed in the print business, while his mom worked in map making for the authorities. Ben Israel grew up in Tel Aviv. He adored baking in the kitchen as a youngster. Ben Israel began a dancing career at age 21, right after leaving the military. He specialized in modern dance. He danced together with the Israeli dance firms Batsheva and Batdor over an interval of some 15 years, and toured worldwide. Close to the conclusion of his dancing career, he went to America. In 1993, while living in NYC, Ben Israel retired from dancing, in part due to having developed arthritis. He was found and mentored by Martha Stewart who saw among his cakes in a window. Since 2011, Ben Israel has been the host and judge of the Food Network contest show Sweet Genius. Ben Israel is a Visiting Master Pastry-Teacher in The International Culinary Center in NYC. He instructs the Classic Pastry Arts course as well as the Cake Techniques & Design course his method of sugar paste.
